Commissioner's Court does the business of the County and represents the County at higher levels (State,Multi-County and Federal)
The Commissioner's Court is made up of four Commissioners and the County Judge. Each Commissioner represent the citizens of their respective precincts in this court. Commissioners Court budgets for all county expenditures and set property tax rates based on property values received from the Wise County Appraisal District ( a seperate entity contracted to appraise property in accordance with state standards) Commissioners have no input on values, only the tax rate.
The Commissioners Court provides funding within the county for road and bridge maintainence and construction. The court appoints Board of Directors for Emergency Service Districts (currently only one ESD 1 in Boyd). They provide emergency medical service to rural areas, and they regulate subdivisions within the county.
Commissioners approve budgets for all county departments including the Sheriffs office Administrative offices, Justice of the Peace offices, aid to volunteer fire departments, Wise County EMS and many other departments.
