In the upcoming election the Precinct 3 voters will be faced with making a decision that will affect this portion of the County for the next 2 years and beyond.  We must have commissioners that look outside of Wise County to control our destiny.  With the ever demanding issues of roads, air quality, and water safety we have to be aware of not only those factors that are within our county, but also those outside factors that will inevitably change our county.

ROADS:

Roads and bridges are the most obvious service the county provides to its residents.  They are essential to providing access to rural property.  Residents, Fire & Sheriff Departments, Ambulance and Industry need good access in order to maintain safety and quality of life.  As a member of the Commissioner’s Court, I will continue to fund the improvement and maintenance of our county road system; County Roads will be a priority.  We must also be aware of regional plans for future thoroughfare development within our county. The Court must represent the property rights of the citizens of Wise County when it comes to these issues.

A TOUCHY SUBJECT:

Prior to the adoption of subdivision ordinances, developers of legal subdivisions were not required to meet the current road specifications. Within the county there are subdivisions whose residents are forced to bear the total cost of road maintenance in addition to County road maintenance taxes. We must work to bring a resolution, on a case by case basis, to give these taxpayer’s fair representation in regards to road maintenance.  Again this must be on a case by case basis to be fair to all tax payers.

WATER:

Water is a vital resource for our County.  We must be represented when it comes to retaining what remaining rights we have left for control of those surface water sheds not yet within jurisdiction of other agencies.  This will insure that our natural resources are used for the benefit of Wise County citizens and not others.

 AIR:

Most days we take for granted the state of our atmosphere. The EPA and TCEQ are the lead agencies that develop policy guidelines for air quality. Having a voice in the development of these policies will insure guidelines that we can live with, without crippling our local economy. Commissioners must be proactive in relations to these agencies.

SAFETY & QUALITY OF LIFE:

Residents deserve state of the art emergency medical response through our county ambulance service. Providing funding for the best equipment and training to our first responders will be a priority of this office.  Our law enforcement agencies require the tools and technology to combat the drug and related crimes within Wise County.  Volunteer firemen that donate their time and energies to preserve life and property deserve our respect and support.  Continually petitioning State and Federal agencies for funding and training can be a key factor in improving the services of these agencies while lowering the tax burden to our residents.

Wise County can be the envy of North Central Texas if we are good stewards of our resources, finances, and citizenry.  We must set our own standards, not follow those set for us by others. A Commissioner should be a link for citizens to magnify there voice to state legislators.  If we fail to represent Wise County in Austin we will be forced to live with the decisions that were made for us.

I would honor the privilege of representing Precinct 3 as Commissioner in Wise County.  Please make your choice to define the future of Wise County on our terms by voting Brent Wilson on March 2.
